A Book By Any Other Cover
My love of Stephen King began long before I became Penny Weiss. I was a young teenager when I picked up my first novel of his called Firestarter. While I enjoyed it, I wasn’t blown away by this author just yet. Next I read Carrie, and liked it quite a bit too. But it wasn’t until I watched the IT miniseries on TV in the late 80s that I truly began to see Stephen King for the genius that he is. The moment I ready IT, I was hooked! The story moved quickly and for some reason I was very drawn to the character Pennywise the Clown. I know he is diabolical, but nonetheless fascinating as character! Little did I know then it must have been a premonition or sixth sense because a couple decades later I became PennyWeiss – the non-murderous clown!
To this day, it still remains in my top 10 favorite books of all time. I went on to read and love a good chunk of his books — especially Pet Semetary (also in my top 10), Christine, 11/22/63; Under the Dome; Needful Things; The Dark Half, and Misery. He is and always will be one of my all-time favorite authors.
So when I saw this puzzle on one of my Facebook puzzling groups, I knew I needed it desperately. I held off for a bit though because it looked like it was a junky, potentially spammish type of no name puzzle company. However, after checking with a few people who had ordered and completed the puzzle, I felt a little more confident and pulled the trigger.
I am so glad I did! It was a highly entertaining build and while the pieces were literally cardstock paper thin, it lay flat and all the pieces connected well albeit a little loose. It was unfortunately missing one piece and had one duplicate piece. I usually err on the side that it was my fault for losing a piece, and sometimes I end up finding it. However, I am leaning toward this one being a manufacturing error since I have thoroughly cleaned the entire downstairs tile floor since completing the puzzle in said space and it is nowhere to be found. Plus the fact that I had a duplicate piece indicates that they were not very careful when pulling freshly cut puzzles out of the machine and bagging them. Some other poor Stephen King fan out there in the world is looking for that extra corner piece that is sitting in my box too, I’m sure.
One of the things I loved best about the puzzle was that it had at least 4 or 5 different IT covers. How cool is that?!
All in all though it was a fantastically fun puzzle to do and the quickest I have ever finished a 1000 piece puzzle — less than 12 hours total. I was pretty proud of myself for that fact alone — ha ha!
