On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, I officially started working on Around the World. The task of sorting 42,000 small pieces of cardboard is NO JOKE. I have pieces everywhere!
Initially, on paper, I thought I would categorize the first rough sort into about 19 categories. As I have been going through the pieces this week, it has turned out to be a few less. Mostly because it’s just too difficult to tell for sure on a lot of pieces what it is exactly that I’m looking at so far. For now at least, I have settled on the following 11 categories.
- Edges
- Blue sky
- Purple, pink, and orange sky
- White snow, mountains / clouds
- Skyscrapers
- Greenery
- Yellow / gold / stone looking buildings
- Red things
- Animals
- Signs / words
- I haven’t got a clue what this is stuff
Each night this past week I worked on sorting more pieces into my buckets. I averaged about 1.5 hours each night Tuesday through Thursday. Then on Friday because it was my OFF Friday from work (I love my job!), I was able to put in an additional 3 hours. I am now at approximately 7.5 hours in sorting time. I didn’t do much on Saturday at all due to lots of errands and a much needed date night with my hubby to celebrate our 15-year wedding anniversary.
So here is where we stand at this point as I begin my 5th day of sorting. We will see how much I can get done today…
